Herbalism Q&A

Frequently asked questions about the work with herbs and ritual magic…

  1. “How to dry Mandrake?”

If you read historical accounts you will notice the root is receiving a monthly bathing or is fed with libations. The thing with mandrake root is that it continues to live, even when it’s taken out of the soil. A healthy root stays fleshy for months or even years after, similar to a potato. So the actual goal is not to dry the root, but to preserve it. I have kept mine on the altar in the open air. The root began shooting new sprouts and then stayed like that. A mistake was to place it in a tightly sealed glass jar, which caused the tissue to turn moldy. A good way of storing is a wooden box, with air holes or just place it on a disc on your altar and provide it with weekly or monthly offerings.
